Downtown is the 1999-2000 MTV animated series that documents the loose, sprawling friendships of a group of young New Yorkers, drawn directly from real-life conversations and field recordings the production team gathered around the city. The show ran for 13 episodes on MTV before being cancelled, with each half-hour built around a small, specific city moment, an evening at a hotel bar, a long subway ride, an improbable limo, a graffiti session, the kind of story that almost never makes it into a network animated cartoon.
