Garbage Pail Kids is the deeply-controversial 1987 CBS animated series adapted from the iconic Topps trading-card series of the same name, in which the various grotesque, gross-out card characters star in their own short adventures with the kind of deliberately-loud body-humor and crude comedy register that the source trading-card line built its broader audience around. The show was originally produced for CBS for the 1987 season, but parental advocacy groups led to the network shelving the series before its broadcast premiere, with episodes only later surfacing in syndication and on home video.
