Mighty Max is the early-1990s syndicated animated series that paired toy-line marketing with surprisingly ambitious mythology and adventure storytelling. Running across two seasons starting in 1993, the show centered on a kid named Max who receives a magical baseball cap that lets him travel between dimensions, with his ally Virgil the chicken-headed lemurian and his bodyguard Norman driving him through battles against ancient evils, demons, and assorted mythological threats. The format took the toy-driven animation template and pushed it harder than most contemporaries dared.
