Rango imagines a desert town called Dirt where a chameleon pet stranded in the American Southwest takes on the unlikely role of sheriff after stumbling into the lawless settlement and inventing a backstory for himself as a fearless gunslinger. Faced with actually defending the town from real threats including the menacing rattlesnake Rattlesnake Jake and the corruption running through Dirt's water supply, Rango must figure out who he actually is rather than just who he claims to be. The film plays as a feature-length CGI animated Western that pulls heavily from the visual and tonal traditions of classic Spaghetti Western cinema.
