Rio is the 2011 Blue Sky Studios CGI animated feature about Blu, a domesticated blue macaw from small-town Minnesota who is brought down to Rio de Janeiro to meet Jewel, the last female of his species, and discovers a vibrant urban-jungle world full of music, samba, and the ongoing threat of bird smugglers. The film traveled internationally through theatrical release and was later picked up across BBC One and NBC for broadcast airings, anchoring a small franchise that included a sequel feature.
