Sita Sings the Blues 1-Disc Box Set DVD
Sita Sings the Blues weaves together three storytelling traditions into a single animated feature, retelling the ancient Indian epic of Ramayana through the eyes of Sita, the wife of Rama who is exiled, kidnapped by the demon king Ravana, and rescued by her husband only to be questioned about her loyalty during her absence. The film pairs the mythological narrative with an autobiographical contemporary story of a relationship breakdown, all set to the recorded jazz vocals of 1920s singer Annette Hanshaw whose recordings provide the film's distinctive musical voice. The film plays as a feature-length animated entry that defied conventional animation approaches.
