The New Adventures of Flash Gordon is the late-70s Filmation animated series that retells the classic Flash Gordon space-opera in serialized half-hour chapters, with Flash, Dale Arden, and Dr. Hans Zarkov rocketing to the planet Mongo to lead the resistance against Ming the Merciless, his iron-jawed armies, and the planet's various warring tribes. The show ran on NBC across 1979, 1980, and 1981, with later airings on Syfy giving it a second life, and totals 32 episodes across two seasons that hew unusually close to the original Alex Raymond newspaper-strip mythology.
