Up follows the elderly widower Carl Fredricksen who has lost his wife Ellie and faces the prospect of being moved into a retirement home, and who instead attaches thousands of helium balloons to his house and floats away on the South American adventure he and Ellie always dreamed of taking together. He inadvertently picks up an eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell who was on his porch trying to earn a final merit badge, and the unlikely pair land in the Paradise Falls region where they encounter a talking dog named Dug, an exotic bird named Kevin, and the long-vanished explorer who Carl idolized as a child. The film plays as a feature-length Pixar CGI animated adventure.
